Join Us Thursday to Celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the 1987 Pan Am Games
Indiana Sports Corporation will commemorate the 25th Anniversary of the Pan Am Games with a public celebration Thursday on Georgia Street, in front of Pan Am Plaza, from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.
The celebration will feature live music from the The Wright Brothers Band, who performed on Monument Circle during the Games. Kristie Phillips-Bannister will also take part. Phillips-Bannister was a member of the 1987 Pan American gymnastics gold medal team and was inducted into the USA Gymnastics Hall of Fame in 2006. Members from the Pan American leadership team will also be in attendance.
As part of the celebration, merchandise with a special limited edition 25th Pan Am anniversary logo will be available for purchase, and a life size cutout of Amigo, the Pan American mascot, will be available for photo opportunities. Food trucks will also be lined along Georgia Street for lunch options.

Pan Am Games Exhibit at the Indianapolis Artsgarden
To recognize the 25th Anniversary of the 1987 Pan American Games, The Arts Council of Indianapolis has created a visual display featuring original artwork, memorabilia from the Games, and more. The display will be featured in the Artsgarden through August 31.

The Big Ten Football Championship Game will feature the champion of the Legends Division facing the champion of the Leaders Division. The winner earns the Big Ten Championship and a chance to play in the Rose Bowl Game or Bowl Championship Series National Championship Game. Wisconsin defeated Michigan State, 42-39, in the inaugural championship game in front of a crowd of more than 64,000 at Lucas Oil Stadium.
Geared For Health Primed for Big September
Indiana Sports Corp’s Geared For Health Program has several events scheduled for September, including a Colts Game Day collection and multiple collection and distribution drives at Bankers Life Fieldhouse.
Indiana Sports Corp’s Geared For Health (learn more about the program with this video ) program collects and distributes donated sports equipment to help underserved local young athletes have the equipment they need to jumpstart a more active lifestyle while encouraging a commitment to good health. The program collects new and gently-used donated sports equipment from manufacturers, retailers, institutions, events and individuals, and distributes it to not-for-profit, youth-serving organizations, sports leagues, sports clubs, and schools.
Over the past five years, the program has collected more than $850,000 in equipment and distributed that equipment for the benefit of more than 135,000 local youth. The most recent equipment distribution in April included 11,000 items to 90 local organizations.

Wayne Duke Award Recipient wins Olympic Medal
Congratulations to 2012 Wayne Duke Postgraduate Award recipient Margaux Farrell, who medaled at this summer’s Olympic Games.
Farrell won a bronze medal as a member of France’s 800-meter freestyle relay team. As a dual citizen of both the United States and France, Farrell was able to compete for France in the Olympics.
The Wayne Duke Postgraduate Award is an annual scholarship recognizing one male and one female Big Ten senior student-athlete pursuing a postgraduate degree for achievements in academic, athletics, civic service, and leadership. Farrell received the award in conjunction with the 2012 Big Ten Men’s and Women’s Basketball Tournaments in Indianapolis.
A recent graduate of IU, Farrell earned her degree in broadcast journalism and is pursuing her master’s degree at the University of Southern California.
Farrell is the first female Indiana Hoosier to win an Olympic medal since 1976.
